DOGS IN HOT CARS

Every year in Australia (and around the world) dogs have been found in distressed state suffering from heat stroke as result of owners not thinking about how hot it can get in their car. Our focus and campaign is to educate people especially for summer months to be aware of the dangers of leaving your dog in the car. It doesn’t take long for your car to heat up. Cars can heat up like saunas even on mild days.

Remember to always have plenty of water available for your dog when you take him/her with you. Place drink container in shady spot in car. If you do have to leave your dog in the car for even a short time park the car in a shady spot and make sure your windows are left open enough so that the dog can place his muzzle outside to breath in fresh air or tie him up outside if location suits.

We highly suggest not to leave your dog in your car at all.

Guard Dogs - Please help us help them

“Guard dog” or “security dog” companies are listed in the yellow pages, just like any other company pitching a service or a product. The dogs are essentially treated like commodities that are leased and sold for profit.

As “working dogs”, most guard dogs are given only the care required to ensure that they will be able to perform their so-called job. Anti-cruelty laws apply to guard dogs, but the insidious nature of the neglect which guard dogs are likely to endure makes their plight one that cannot be properly addressed by these laws. This is especially true since guard dog companies often “rotate” dogs, making it nearly impossible for anyone to closely monitor their condition. Rotation is routine practice in the industry and is intended to keep guard dogs unfamiliar with their location in order to prevent them from becoming “too friendly” towards people in any given area.

About Us

COUNTRY No Comments »

DogAid Australia was established in Victoria in March 2001. Over the last 6 years our primary aim has been to contribute to the total and complete ban of the use of torture of companion animals for slaughter and contribute to bringing about an end to the consideration of dogs and cats as livestock for human consumption. During these years DogAid has gained much support from the Australian public, sponsors including Natures Gift Pet Food, KATZ Pet Food, Supercoat and celebrities like Marty Fields who helped out tremendously.

Working closely with KAPS (Korean Animal Protection Society) in South Korea and IAKA (International Aid for Korean Animals) finally there has been some positive steps to improving animal welfare laws by the Korean Government. Please read more on Korean Dogs Page. DogAid is representative for KAPS in Australia and will continue to support KAPS in their campaign for “Prohibition of Dogmeat”. See KAPS website for more details. http://www.koreananimals.or.kr/

Donations: Please continue to send donations to KAPs. The money goes towards medication, rescue services, finding good homes for shelter dogs and cats, education programs and many other areas of need.

DogAid Australia will also be focussing on campaigns to help Dogs in Australia.

Some Success at Last - but more work needed

After several years of campaigning and petitioning  , DogAid Australia working with IAKA and KAPS,  is happy to report that Korea’s Animal Protection Law has recently been amended to include tougher penalties for animal cruelty as well as stronger legislation to address stray and abandoned animals. Additional changes include provisions to allow for better law enforcement by giving power to local governments who can appoint “Animal Protection Officers” to investigate cruelty and seize animals which are being abused. The amended law was passed in January of 2007 and will allow a one-year grace period, going into effect at the beginning of 2008. But more work needs to be done as dogmeat is still being sold and eaten in South Korea.

DogAid Australia is launching some new national campaigns and programs. These include “Adopt a Dog” where we will assist people in Australia to find homes for unwanted dogs and puppies. Quite often people find themselves in situations where they can no longer take care of their beloved pet but don’t want them to be put down, sometimes people move into places where they cannot keep pets, other times people make the wrong choice and buy a pet not realising that they cannot give them what they need. This is where we jump in and help find good homes for them working with animal welfare networks . See “Adopt a Dog” Page for dogs that need homes.

Hot Doggies - This campaign is about educating people in Australia to remember not to leave doggies in hot cars especially over summer months where cars can heat up very quickly. The important thing to remember to alway leave windows down in the car if you are taking fido with you.

Guard Doggies - How often do you drive past car dealerships, car wreckers, junkyard, and see guard dogs and wonder if they have appropriate shelter food and water and good place to sleep, do you think about their existence living with little human contact, isolation, often fly bitten in summer months, chained day and night in some cases. We don’t need to have security/ guard dogs in today age of technology we have enough surveillance systems that are a far better deterent. Why must these poor animal continually be put into these conditions and have to suffer. This must end and we need your help and support to make this happen. Vist our our Guard Doggies page for more information.

Our Campaign is to BAN USE OF GUARD DOGS IN AUSTRALIA Lets end their sufferering today.
