If you’re thinking about adding a new puppy to your family, why not consider adopting one from a local animal shelter or you city Pound?
Most pounds and rescues are overflowing with dogs in desperate need of a loving home. You may think that only older or ‘problem’ dogs end up in shelters, but you’d be wrong!
Many older puppies and adolescent dogs (between 9 and 12 months of age) are surrendered to shelters every day. And often ‘oops’ litters (unexpected or unwanted puppies) or abandoned mama-dogs or litters, end up there too. Pit Bulls are in rescue for many reasons. The most common one is simply because their first owners did not think things through properly when they decided to get a Pit Bull. Another reason is that the dog did not get along well with the children or other pets in the house. Some Pit Bulls were rescued from illegal dog-fighting operations and will require extra care and rehabilitation. These dogs need special attention with experienced owners.

It’s a sad thing in this world, but not every dog finds its way into a perfect home and high energy dogs, like Pomeranians, often need rescue from a mismatch. Some families simply aren’t home enough to provide a good environment for a high energy, inquisitive dog like a Pomeranian and the dogs get into trouble when left in the house by themselves. Some Pomeranians develop bad habits or are integrated poorly into the household, causing problems for them.
Fortunately for dog lovers everywhere, there are Pomeranian rescue organizations dedicated to taking Pomeranians out of bad homes and putting them into new, good homes. Most good, dedicated Pomeranian breeders are also heavily into Pomeranian rescue organizations and many of them will take great care in trying to rehabilitate problem dogs while giving them a temporary place to stay until new homes are found.

With pet classifieds, owners and sellers are meeting up to help give an animal the best chance at a happy home.

No matter how old the dog you’re interested in adopting, you must do whatever you can to find out about him. You want to avoid an adult dog that has too many behavior problems, especially aggression. Here are few questions that you must consider asking:
What is the dog’s background?
Many kinds of dogs are available for adoption. You may go to a shelter, the original owner of the dog, the original breeder of the dog, or just a nice person who found the dog on the street. If you find out that the dog is well-bred and the parents have a certificate to back it up, then go for it! Or, if you think the dog is healthy and friendly, fits your size, coat, and activity criteria, you might want to think a little bit further, though he might be the one you bring home tonight.
